Season Opening Day 2016/17 "STARKEY CUP October 8th
After a wet and abandoned opening on October 1st Our Re-run of the Starkey Cup today was about perfect for our fleet of 10 boats including 1 "Visitor"
5 to 10kts West backing to our usual South East Sea breeze up the river made for a very pleasant afternoon of Sailing
Our "Starkey Cup" is in Memory of Bob Starkey who was a founding Member of our Club back in 2004
The race is also counted as Race 1 of our Handicap Series for A & B Div yachts
<<< Winner this year of the "Starkey"is Peter Elsmore Sailing an IOM Pikanto #77 Division "A" and proud winner of a RED 10 second Penalty Flag for next race
Second Place and Winner>>> of Division "B" and also a red 10 second Pennant was Alan Hurst sailing his "1.5" class # 42
3rd Place overall was David Meldrum sailing an IOM # 06 "A" Division
"Officer of the Day Sailing Tip"
RULE # 1 of our Club Sailing Rules "The Starboard Call"
It is not very wise it IGNORE a call of"Starboard" from a 1.5 Cl Yacht when trying to bluff your way through with a 600mm yacht (hoping to get away with it)? In this case the 1.5 (who had right of way) While trying to avoid running over the little fella lost about 6 boat lengths at the start through no fault of his own?
