Club Series Race #1, on 16 November 2023

Club I.O.M. Scratch Race Trophy #1, on 16 November 2024, was postponed until next year due to lack of sailors, so it was decided to start our series racing.

Race #1  16 November, 2024.

The weather was pleasant with a top of 24oand despite high wind warnings we had moderate winds moving from E to SE at a fluctuating 4 - 10 knots, with occasional gusts of 12. The day started with lighter winds that built over the afternoon. Forecasted high winds approaching 20 knots did not eventuate but all of our racing was well within A rig wind range.

Only four boats turned up, due to David being away racing his 2.4R in Melbourne and Paul's boat having a motorbike fall on it!

We are restricted in course laying to leaving 1/3 of the river clear for all the fishing and leisure boats that pass and the start line needs to be where the scorers can see down the line, so we had to lay the triangle course almost across wind, so Port starts were the best option. We had mainly light to moderate breezes, with some big shifts during races of up to 40 degrees. With 7 races of three laps our 1 minute starts allowed us to power through, and everyone sailed all races for some tight races and finishes. Boats were rarely spaced out and some tight racing ensued with some tight finishes.

Colin was powering along until the last race, that Richard won, and had 6 bullets overall, but Ken was consistent throughout the day six seconds. With the small fleet, tightly bunched, Ian sailed really well with tight finishes between he and Richard.

With the consistent wind and pleasant temperature, racing was very quick, with fast downwind and tightly contested upwinds.

Colin was the winner on the day, earning him a 10 Second Handicap, Ken was 2nd and Richard and Ian equal 3rd!

Race #3  14 December, 2024.

The weather was pleasant with a top of 23oand we had moderate winds moving from E to SE at a fluctuating 4 - 10 knots, with occasional gusts of 12. The day started with lighter winds that built over the afternoon.

Six boats turned up, for a pleasant day of sailing, even if it did turn to a cool wind in the latter afternoon. With 7 races almost everyone sailed all races with some retirements for minor reasons and Colin having to miss one race, giving tight races and finishes. Boats were rarely spaced out and some tight racing.

David was powering along with 4 bullets overall, but Ken was consistently on his tail or taking 3 bullets. Richard sailed really well with tight finishes consistently just behind Ken and David.

David was the winner on the day, earning him a 10 Second Handicap, Ken was 2nd and Richard 3rd!

Race #4  11 January, 2025.

The weather was hot with a top of 35owith light to moderate winds moving from E to SE at a fluctuating 2 - 6 knots, with occasional gusts of 10. The day started with lighter winds that built, a little, over the afternoon.

Five boats turned up, and again Port starts were the best option. We had mainly light to moderate breezes, with some big shifts during races of up to 40 degrees. With 7 races of three laps our 1 minute starts allowed us to power through and get out of the heat. Richard had a rudder servo go sour on his boat, so he didn't have a great day. We hope he'll be back next race day. Boats were rarely spaced out and some tight racing ensued with some tight finishes.

Ken, David and Colin fought to get on top but David and Colin were on 10 second handicaps, but 'consistent' Ken won the day with only 1st and 2nd places, including his discard. Ian sailed very well with some 2nd and 3rd places - well sailed.

With the moderate wind but warm temperature, racing was very quick, with close downwind and tightly contested upwinds.

Ken was the winner on the day, earning him a 10 Second Handicap, David was 2nd and Colin 3rd. So, all three are on 10 second now.

Race #5, 8 February, 2025.

Racing was abandoned due to imminent rain and winds. Rain came about 12.30 - 1.00pm but not winds.

Race #6,  22 February, 2025.

The weather was hot with a top of 33owith light to moderate winds moving from S to SE at a fluctuating 3 - 8 knots, with occasional gusts of 10. The day started with lighter winds that built, a little, over the afternoon.

Five boats turned up, and again Port starts were the best option. We had mainly good breezes that allowed us to get 10 races of three laps and get out of the heat. No mechanical issues allowed a great day of everyone finishing all 10 races, with tight racing having some some tight finishes.

Ken, David and Colin were all on 10 second handicaps but David was consistently fast with Ken close behind.

With the moderate wind but warm temperature, racing was very quick, with close downwind and tightly contested upwinds.

David was the winner on the day, earning him a 20 Second Handicap, Ken was 2nd and Richard the 3rd.
